FARMINGTON — Wilson Stream Family Practice, 672 Wilton Road, has received national recognition from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for its use of electronic records.
The practice was among the first independent physicians in Maine to write electronic prescriptions and was the first small independent practice in Maine to use Maine’s statewide record-sharing system, HealthInfoNet. Wilson Stream is the first of 1,000 in Maine to receive recognition.
Leaders from Maine’s health care community celebrated the achievements of Wilson Stream in a ceremony held Jan. 11 in Farmington. Also in attendance were representatives from the offices of U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, R-Maine, and U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud, D-Maine, as well as staff of the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The Maine Regional Extension Center, operated by HealthInfoNet, organized the ceremony to recognize the employees of Wilson Stream for their leadership in adoption and use of health information technology to improve patient care. The practice recently implemented an electronic health record offered by athenahealth.com, which has offices in Belfast. Wilson Stream then enrolled with the MEREC to enhance its use of the new EHR to meet new federal requirements meant to improve practice efficiency and patient care quality.
Wilson Stream Family Practice was started by Drs. Steve Bien and Jeff Fuson and has been serving patients in Farmington since 1982.
