FARMINGTON —The UMF Art Gallery will present “Decor,” an exhibit featuring an expansive 30-foot wall drawing by Clint Fulkerson, metal work by Ian Henderson, sculptural installations by Katrazyna Randall and fabric interventions and drawings by Kate Russo.

The free exhibit will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19.

From pristine and entrancing geometries to unsettling extravagances of color and scale, “Decor” explores the complex inter-relationship of formalism, functionalism, domesticity and commercialization.

It poses the questions: How do architecture and design reflect a postmodern understanding of the natural world? How do globalization and mass production impact our understanding of workmanship and craft? How do we come to terms with the idea of “beauty” in a world saturated with branded, brilliantly marketed objects of virtually infinite description?

“Decor” will be on view through Feb. 12.

The UMF Art Gallery is at 246 Main St. It is open noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday during the UMF academic year, and by appointment. For more information, call 778-7002 or email gallery director Elizabeth Olbert at elizabeth.olbert@maine.edu.
