WALES — Oak Hill Adult Education has announced its winter/spring classes for 2012. Two sessions will be offered, session one runs February to March, and session two runs from April through May. Unless other arrangements are indicated, all classes will take place at Oak Hill High School.

General Educational Development: Classes will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Preparation classes will be offered to refresh skills in science, social studies, reading, mathematics, grammar and writing.

An adult high school diploma is available for adults who wish to earn credits through a combination of classes and home study. Credits earned through adult education are added to those earned in high school. Credits may be awarded for military service, work and volunteer services. Classes are ongoing, from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

An after-school program for children is also available in Litchfield and Sabattus. Both sites offer enrichment activities and field trips. Contact Carman Douglas for more information at 375-6605.

Driver education: The course is required by state law for anyone under the age of 17 to get a driving permit. It is encouraged for beginning drivers of any age. It consists of 30 classroom hours and 10 driving hours. Students will learn the basics of controlling the car, management of time and space, parallel parking, interstate driving and more. Bring birth certificate and social security card to the first class. Instruction given by Roy’s Driving Academy. The class will be in session for 10 days, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. Cost is $465 (all fees included.) Minimum of five students per session.

Substitute teaching: The free workshop will provide participants with basic skills in classroom behavior management and classroom strategies and activities. Workshops are available from 3 to 5 p.m. and those interested should call for an appointment.

Instructor training: Oak Hill Adult Education invites anyone who has a skill or hobby to share with others to join the staff. The training will help participants learn how to teach others and share information in a classroom setting. The training is free. Class will meet from 6 to 7 p.m., with dates to be announced.

Zumba Gold: One-hour of high impact Latin-infused aerobic workout for those of any age or fitness level. Adriane Kramer of Girl Power Fitness will instruct. Class will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost is $50 for one day, or $80 for both. This class will be offered both first and second sessions this spring. These classes take place at Andy Valley Gymnastics, 74 Westminster St., Lewiston.

Introduction to computers: Participants will learn the basics, and Josie French will instruct. Classes will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, during session one. Cost is $40/$45 NR.

Intro to Microsoft Office: The workshop will teach how to maneuver through Microsoft office, covering Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Instructor Josie French. Classes will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, during session two. Cost is $40/$45 NR.

Introduction to genealogy: This class is focused on how to get started on your family genealogy. It will cover basic websites, paperwork and sources on how to find ancestors. Instructor Josie French. Class will meet first session only, Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40/$45 NR.

Advanced genealogy: This class delves farther into your family tree. The focus is on how to overcome roadblocks, and more in-depth ways to track your family. Instructor Josie French. Class will meet second session only, Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $45/$50 NR.

Preserves, pickles and more!: All natural cooking at its best. Join instructor Carman Douglas and learn how to can, pickle and preserve like a pro. Course will be held during session one, Monday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $60/$65 NR. Supplies are included.

Memoir writing: If you have a life full of stories and are unsure how to write them down, this course is for you. Join instructor CarlaRose Dubois either session, on Tuesday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. Cost is $40/$45 NR.

Natural parenting: Learn all about cloth diapers, organic baby food, baby sign language and more. Join instructor CarlaRose Dubois either session, Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $50/$55 NR.

Reiki I & II: This course will be offered both sessions, and space is limited. Focus is on healing using energies all around us. Certificate will be presented once each session is completed. Instructor is Julia Nason. Cost is $50/$55 for either Reiki I or II, or $80/$85 for both Reiki I and II. Reiki I is offered Feb. 7  and 14 or April 3 and 10. Reiki II is offered March 13 and 20 or May 8 and 15. Classes are Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.

Basics of auto care: Learn the basics of how to care for your car, including how to change a tire, check your oil, boost your battery and more. Instructor is Marc Dumais, owner of Dumais Auto. Classes will be held during session one, Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $50/$55 NR.

Beyond the basics of auto care: If you know the basics, but want to become more in-tune with your car, this is the perfect course for you. Learn how to change your own oil, read your gages and how to recognize all those foreign smells and sounds your car emits. Instructor is Marc Dumais, owner of Dumais Auto. Classes will be held during session two, Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $50/$55 NR.
