HEBRON — Two auto racing entrepreneurs will be the keynote speakers at the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce dinner and awards ceremony on Feb. 4.

Oxford Plains Speedway owner William Ryan Jr. and motor sports publisher Dick Berggren will both speak on making businesses successful, according to chamber Executive Director John Williams.

In addition to Oxford Plains Speedway, Ryan owns the Oxford Plains Snow Tubing Park and Oxford Plains Fun Park in Oxford, and the Outdoor Adventure Center in Bethel. He also chairs the Maine Red Claws board.

Berggren, of Connecticut, was a race car driver before becoming a journalist. He founded Speedway Illustrated, a motor sports magazine, and is the chief editor. He is the lead broadcaster for Fox Television’s coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The motor sports figures are a change from recent political speakers like Gov. Paul LePage in 2011 and U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe in 2010.

In a release, Williams said the night won’t just be about auto racing. “The annual dinner is a celebration of our business community and award winners as well,” Williams said.

The chamber will present awards to New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. for Business of the Year, the board of Rightstart for the Community Service Award, Ted Moccia, principal of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, as Employee of the Year and Crazy Horse Racing Parts and Engines for the Rising Star Award.

The dinner is set for Feb. 4 in the Lepage Center at Hebron Academy, starting at 5 p.m. with a social hour followed by a buffet dinner and speeches from Ryan and Berggren. Awards will be presented at the end of the night.

The dinner is open to the public. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased online or by mail. Visit the chamber’s website, oxfordhillsmaine.com, or call the chamber at 743-2281 to purchase tickets.
