Library network
BETHEL — The Bethel Library is now part of the Maine InfoNet Download Library, which has thousands of downloadable books. This means that library patrons can now download free e-books and audio books using their e-book readers or other devices. There are dozens of different devices (such as Nook and Kindle) that can be used.
The Bethel Library does not currently have a Web page, but patrons can go to download.maineinfonet.org and click on Quick Start Guide. Once set up, all patrons need to do is click on My Account, click on the Bethel Library and then log-in their patron ID number (library card number). Patrons do not need to come to the library to download books.
The library will be closed for the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 24, Sunday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Dec. 26. Over the New Year’s weekend, the library will be closed Saturday, Dec. 31, Sunday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 2.
Candlelight service
HARRISON — The Bolster’s Mills United Methodist Church will hold its Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. Christmas Day service will be held at the regular time at 9 a.m. The Rev. Lucille Richard will lead both services.
All are welcome. The Bolster’s Mills United Methodist Church is on the Bolster’s Mills Road.
Lessons, carols
PARIS — A Christmas Eve candlelight service of lessons and carols will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, at Deering Memorial United Methodist Church. Ministry Team member Anna-Jean (A-J) Alexander will lead the evening worship service.
Christmas Day service will be held at the usual worship time at 10 a.m. with Ministry Team member Joan Spitzform leading the worship service.
The Deering United Methodist Church is on the corner of Main and Church streets.
Dec. 24 service
PARIS — The Christmas Eve candlelight service at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street will take place at 6:30 p.m. Speakers will include Terry Twitchell and Wayne Whittemore reading the traditional Christmas scriptures, Marylin Hammond and Sharon Bouchard with seasonal readings, Renee Wales on flute, Jeannie Whittemor and Terry Twitchell singing “O Holy Night” and selections by the choir. Traditional Christmas carols will be sung by all. All are welcome to attend.
Eve service
WATERFORD — The Christmas Eve candlelight service at North Waterford Congregational Church will be held at 5 p.m. All are welcome. There will be no service on Christmas Day.
DUV meetings
PARIS — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 held their Christmas meeting Dec. 17 at the Haskell House.
Second nominations for new officers were held. The meeting was preceded by a chowder supper.
After the meeting there was a gift exchange and the stockings were filled for disabled members.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the home of Marilyn Jones in Norway.
