HEBRON – Hebron Academy Head of School John King welcomed the newest members of the school’s faculty and staff this year. They include a Hebron alumnus and graduates of local colleges.

Chase Baker graduated from Colby College in 2011 with mathematical sciences and education degrees. He did his student teaching at Waterville Senior High School and Freeport High School, and spent three years as a teacher’s assistant at Colby tutoring students in calculus. He is an avid ultimate frisbee player and was co-captain of Colby’s ultimate program in his senior year. He formerly worked as an assistant manager of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream in his hometown of Freeport. Baker teaches upper-level mathematics and serves as dorm faculty.

Bringing his expertise in corporate management and marketing to Hebron, Brad Cummings has joined the history department to teach the school’s entrepreneurship courses. A graduate of Bowdoin College, Cummings lives in Norway, where he formerly operated a small family manufacturing business. Cummings also coaches the Hebron football team.

Jessica Fitts joins the admissions office as the operations manager. A graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and marketing, she comes to Hebron from Stephens Memorial Hospital where she served as administrative coordinator for the executive office. Prior to working at Stephens, Fitts was a retail manager at American Eagle Outfitters and the Gap.

Originally from Portland, Noah Love is a 2007 graduate of Hebron, where he was a four-year member of the drama program. He is a 2011 graduate of Eckerd College with a degree in international business and management, and joins the admissions office as an admissions counselor after working in wine exporting and distribution in Buenos Aires. He serves as dorm faculty in the upper-class boys’ dormitory.

Cory Sanderson graduated from Bates College in 2010 with a B.A. in art and visual culture. He was a four-year varsity rower and two-year captain of the Bates men’s rowing team. After graduating, Sanderson taught and coached at the St. Paul’s advanced studies program in New Hampshire and the Fessenden School in Massachusetts. He joins the Hebron fine arts department and teaches upper and middle school art. Sanderson also coaches the Lumberjacks’ football team and serves as dorm faculty for the freshman boys’ dormitory.

Owen “Kit” Smith attended Brunswick High School and captained the soccer, hockey and lacrosse teams. While in high school, he was awarded the Travis Roy Award in hockey and was an All-American in lacrosse. He is a 2011 graduate of Bowdoin College, where he was captain of the hockey and lacrosse teams and received Honorable Mention All-American and First-Team All-NESCAC awards in lacrosse his sophomore, junior and senior years. He also was the recipient of the All-Sportsmanship award in hockey. At Hebron, Smith teaches math, serves as dorm faculty and is a leader with the outdoor education program. He will serve as an assistant coach for the boys’ hockey team, and will take over as head coach of the boys’ varsity lacrosse team in the spring.

Daniella Swenton comes to Hebron from Clark University where, as a postdoctoral research fellow and visiting assistant professor of genetics, she taught conservation biology, genetics and introductory biology and continued her research in evolutionary ecology. A graduate of the University of Vermont, she earned her Ph.D. in biology at the University of New Mexico. She has conducted research in Alaska, the Colorado Rockies, the Arctic Ocean and the desert Southwest to study such diverse organisms as seals, insects and plants. At Hebron, she teaches upper school biology and assists with the outdoor education program.
