RUMFORD — Alfred “Al” A. Touchette, 85, of Hillside Street, Roxbury, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness with loving family at his side.

He was born in Rumford, June 7, 1926, a son of Fred and Marie L. (Patry) Touchette.

Al attended schools in Roxbury. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Missouri in the South Pacific.

He married Mary Massaro on June 22, 1946, and together they shared 65 years of marriage.

Al was employed for 33 years with Boise Cascade Paper Co. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. Al was a member of the American Legion Post 24.

He loved snowmobiling, eating at Dick’s restaurant, and Ellis’ in Dixfield, and enjoyed the many activities at the Rumford Community Home, while visiting his wife.

Surviving are his wife, Mary (Massaro) Touchette of Rumford; a son, Anthony P. Touchette and wife, Brigitte C. Emmons-Touchette, of Buxton; a sister, Joan Hickey and husband, Laurin, of Lincolnville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Dora Hardy in 1998; and a son, Joseph Touchette in 2003.
