FARMINGTON — The Old South Church sanctuary will host the second annual Christmas Carol Sing and Music Benefit on Sunday, Dec. 11, beginning at 3 p.m. A free-will offering will be accepted at the door to help support the Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry Fuel Assistance Fund.

This year the need is great with a cold winter in the forecast and decreased assistance funding for qualifying households. Rev. Susan Crane stated that not all local Assistance Fund applicants meet federal program requirements and not only does the FAEM Fuel Assistance Fund supplement the federal program, it also helps fill the gaps for many other needy families.

Along with the sing-along of selected favorite Christmas carols accompanied by Patricia Hayden, there will be special musical guests including Mt. Blue High School Syncopations under the direction of Carol Shumway and accompanied by Patricia Hayden, the Franklin County Fiddlers directed by Steve Muise, and an FAEM all-church guest choir directed by Dan Woodward. A special piano and organ duet of Joel and Patricia Hayden will accompany the sing-along of “Adeste Fideles,” and the finale will be a group sing of Handel’s “Halleluiah” chorus from Messiah.

Raffle quilt tickets will be on sale before the program and during intermission. The donated wall hanging was hand-pieced by Patricia Hayden and machine quilted by Cheri Tompkins. The winning ticket will be drawn in the second half of the program.

Refreshments will be served during intermission for donation.
