This is in response to the letter from Robert Lacombe that appeared in the Sun Journal on Nov. 23.

In his letter, Lacombe complained about state laws that protect tenants. I wonder if he has ever given any thought as to why there are such laws.

Could it be because there was a time when tenants had no rights and unscrupulous landlords treated tenants unfairly and unjustly?

There is a very good reason that there are laws, and for regulations that implement those laws. Unfortunately, it simply is not in some people’s nature to do the right thing unless there are laws that force them to do so.
