BRUNSWICK — The Shambhala Meditation Center, at 19 Mason St., will offer a weekend program of Daoist Qigong on Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11. Taught by Eric Wilson, the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with a mid-day break for lunch.
Daoist qigong is a spiritual discipline that cultivates body and mind simultaneously. It has been practiced for more than 2000 years in China. The gentle practice of Qigong is considered to strengthen joints, muscles, tendons, and bones, nourish internal organs, stimulate circulation of energy in the body and enhance mental clarity. Qigong also helps build a strong foundation for sitting meditation. No previous experience is needed.
This weekend program has been developed by Eva Wong, who is the 19th-generation lineage carrier of Xiantianwujimen Qigong, which is known as the Pre-Celestial Limitless Gate School. Also included in the weekend are Daoist inspired exercises from the Yiquan lineage, known as standing Qigong, of which Wong is the third-generation lineage descendant of its founder. It is offered exclusively through the Shambhala Meditation Centers around the world.
Wilson has been studying with Wong for more than five years, and has been authorized by her to teach the Level 1 and 2 of this Daoist Qigong path as a weekend program. He is a long-time student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, joining the two practices of Shambhala Buddhist meditation and Daoist mind/body discipline.
Comfortable clothing allowing for gentle movement is recommended. Attending the full weekend is encouraged, and required for those who might consider continuing with this discipline. The cost of the program, $125, includes reading material.
Preregistration is required at www.brunswickmaine.shambhala.org or by phone at 998-4809. More information is also available by emailing JuliaHuttel@gmail.com.
