The focus of Lewiston’s redevelopment is incorrect. The largest, and most glaring, redevelopment failure the city of Lewiston has committed over the years is to focus on the old mills.

The key to redevelopment for Lewiston are the canals, not the old mills. Lewiston was even considering the cost to fill in the canals.

Once the city of Lewiston focuses on the creation of a river walk development, similar to the San Antonio River Walk in Texas, then the private marketplace will buy up and redevelop or tear down the old mills with private dollars.

Further, a Lewiston river walk (based on the canals) would attract tourist dollars from (gasp) out of state.
