FARMINGTON — The UMF Concert Band, comprised of University of Maine at Farmington students, community members and local high school students, will perform on Sunday, Nov. 20.

The ensemble, directed by Anita Jerosch, will present a program of music inspired by literature and visual art.

Among the pieces to be played are “The Hobbits,” from Dutch composer Johan De Mej’s “Lord of the Rings Suite;” the Spanish march “Emparito Roca;” excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker;” and selections from Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

Jerosch, a bass trombonist and euphonium player, is a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and directs the big band jazz group Edith Jones Project. She has performed with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and Maine State Music Theater;  played for Carol Channing, Rita Moreno, Barry Manilow and The Manhattan Transfer; and performed at both inaugural balls for President Clinton.

Tickets to the 3 p.m. concert  in Nordica Auditorium at UMF’s Merrill Hall are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors. Children and UMF students admitted free. For more information, call 778-7072.
