FARMINGTON — Franklin County Farm Bureau will host a meeting to discuss healthy eating at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Farmington Town Office downstairs conference room.
The theme for National Farm-City Week this year is childhood obesity. For 56 years, the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day has been used to remind Americans that no man is an island and that country and city folks need each other.
Farm Bureau staff will demonstrate quick, inexpensive snack ideas for children; provide handouts with easy ways to add fruits and vegetables to the diet; and talk about the ways families in Franklin County can now buy locally produced foods for most of the year.
The new U.S. Department of Agriculture’s dietary guidelines, now known as MyPlate, will also be discussed and Cooperative Extension’s new edition of the Master Mix Bulletin will be introduced.
Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded. For more information, contact Pam Harnden, Franklin County Farm Bureau president, at 645-2568 or pharnden@myfairpoint.net.
