HEBRON — The Hebron Academy varsity girls’ soccer team took a little focus off the field to raise money for a breast cancer cure. After holding a bake sale, raffle and all-campus fundraiser, the Lumberjack team has raised almost $1,000 to help the search for a cure.

The culmination of their efforts came on game day during their “Pinks Socks” game against Gould Academy, when team members wore pink and, with supporters, held a sale featuring pink-decorated baked goods.

The team was also in festive dress for the competition, wearing pink during the game, and the teams played with pink soccer balls adorned with the pink ribbon representing breast cancer research.

Head Coach Colin Griggs said, “Many of the girls on the team have close family members or friends whom they have seen battle cancer. They were very interested in doing something right, and the effort the girls put in, on top of their classes and their commitments, to the team project was outstanding.”

Hebron Assistant Coach Anna Skeele first brought forth the fundraising idea a year ago. That season, the girls wore pink ribbons in a game to focus attention on the need to find a cure.
