WELD — A Massachusetts woman was carried off Tumbledown Mountain after falling and spraining her ankle Saturday, according to officials.

She was identified as Karen Chase, 48, of Marblehead, Mass., according to reports.

Edith Smith, director of information and education for the Maine Warden Service, said Chase was about three-quarters of the way to the summit on Brook Trail when she injured her ankle. The Maine Warden Service used a litter to carry her down and then put her on an ATV to take her to a NorthStar ambulance.

“Chase did not require transportation to a medical facility,” she said.

Warden Sgt. Tim Place and Wardens Kris MacCabe, Jonathan Parker, Patrick Egan and Kris Barboza were involved in the rescue. Phillips, Wilton and Franklin County Fire and Rescue, the Department of Conservation and Maine Forest Service assisted, Smith said.
