Pumpkin parade

AUBURN — The Parade of Jack-O’-Lanterns will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28, 29 and 30 at Wallingford’s Fruit House on Perkins Ridge Road, off Youngs Corner Road. Voluntary donations will be taken for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Carvers are invited to show off their talents. Carved pumpkins can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 28 at Wallingford’s Fruit House. First place in the carving contest will receive $50 and second place will receive $25. Winners for the contest will be chosen at 8 p.m. on Halloween night.

AUBURN — Girl Scouts of Maine will host a parent information and registration meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Auburn Middle School.

Girls and adults are invited to attend the meeting to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.

Crafts bazaar

AUBURN — Auburn Public Library will hold their Autumn Crafts Bazaar from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the library, 49 Spring St.

The event will feature local crafters and artisans offering a wide variety of handcrafted items, collectibles, jewelry and more. There will be crafts for kids and treats to share.

Halloween dance

AUBURN — Auburn VFW will hold a Halloween dance on Friday, Oct. 28, at Post Home, 588 Minot Ave.

YPLAA awards

LEWISTON — YPLAA will award four individuals and one business with their annual YPLAA Awards at the annual meeting to be held Friday, Oct. 28, at the Carriage House, 1119 Lisbon St. The evening begins with a social starting at 6:30, dinner at 7 and awards and comedians at 8.

This year’s award recipients will be Mary LaFontaine, Mentor Award; Mike Dostie, Community Involvement Award; Gritty McDuff’s Brewing Company, Business Champion Award; Julia Sleeper of Tree Street Youth, Entrepreneur Award; and Dustin Carrier of Carrier Lawn and Landscape, Business Person of the Year Award.

AUBURN — New Auburn’s downtown businesses invite children to trick or treat during daylight hours from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. The starting point is Rolly’s Diner, where maps explaining the event can be picked up.

Prizes will be awarded for best costumes for children and adults. There will be a haunted house, spooky cemetery, games, goodies and cider. All ages are welcome. The event is free and will take place rain or shine.

United New Auburn Association’s activities committee is putting on the event with the help of area businesses, volunteers and the L/A Boys & Girls Club.

Masquerade ball

LEWISTON — The Community Little Theatre will have a masquerade ball and benefit auction on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Ramada Conference Center. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Attendants are encouraged to wear evening attire, costumes and masks.

Catered gourmet hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be provided by the innovative Chef Randy. The mistress of the ceremony will be Shannon Moss from WMTW News 8, and live music will be played by Bob Charest Band.

WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library will hold a book sale beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, and continuing for one week during regular library hours: Saturday 9-3, Monday 9-1 and 3-7, Tuesday 3-7, Wednesday 2-7 and Thursday 3-7.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, all books will be sold for one dollar per bag.

Halloween party

LEWISTON — The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12,652 will hold a Halloween Party for kids of all ages from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in the Holy Cross Church Hall, 1080 Lisbon St.

Seniors meeting

LEWISTON — The next membership meeting of the Lewiston Senior Citizens will feature a complete turkey lunch for members catered by The Green Ladle served at noon Monday, Nov. 7. Reservations must be made by Nov. 1 and are limited to the first 65 people. The group met on Oct. 3. Sue Holmes presented a program on classes offered for seniors by the Education Center. Ed Barrett, Lewiston City Administrator, answered questions from members concerning the Lewiston School Department’s plan to take over the Multi-Purpose Center for a preschool program for 4-year-olds. Recreation Director Maggie Chisholm and deputy Recreation Director Joline Banaitis were available to speak with members.

Prizes were won by the following: attendance, Willie Danforth; Pot o’Gold, Monique Nadeau, Roger Labbe, Normand Levesque, Aaron Burke and Flo Anctil. Refreshments were served after the meeting.
