LEWISTON — Lewiston High School’s 1961 graduating class held its 50th reunion on Sept. 9, 10 and 11.

For the classmates who play and enjoy golf a golf event took place at Martindale Country Club on Friday.

The major reunion event took place on Saturday on the shores of the Androscoggin River at a property in Greene owned by classmate John Schott and his wife, Pat, designated Schott Meadows for the occasion. Music was provided by Roger Renaud with a special performance by classmate Shep Spinney, a former Grand Ole Opry performer. A picnic lunch menu was presented and catered by the students of Lewiston High School’s culinary arts program.

Classmate Paulette Gosselin led the remembrance of the 46 deceased class members with the assistance of the reunion committee. Camaraderie was the order of the day and went on till dusk.

A breakfast brunch headlined the final day of festivities on Sunday at the Green Ladle Culinary Arts facility on the Lewiston High School campus. A successful silent auction was held.

Three classmates took the podium to culminate the events of the three days. Maine’s Adjutant General John Libby spoke on “Military Life Today,” Rhoda Goldstein Freeman spoke of “Dealing with Adversity” and Sally Rowe Joy, class poet laureate, presented the poem “Life, Love, Loss and What’s Left,” which she wrote especially for the occasion.

The reunion committee included Robert J. Berube, Donald Caron, Robert Crozier Jr., Jacqueline Fournier Curley, Rhoda Goldstein Freeman, Marc Jalbert, Sylvia Grenier LeBlanc, Julien Butch LeBlanc, Rolande LeCompte LaPointe, Rosemarie Levesque Goodwin, John Schott and wife, Pat, and John Tewhey.
