LIVERMORE — The theft of a section of metal culvert and damage to a gate at the Transfer Station will be borne by the town. The insurance deductible for both is higher than both items are worth.
A 10-foot section of 12-inch metal culvert pipe was stolen from the Highway Garage grounds on Church Street in early October, Town Administrator Kurt Schaub said. The culvert is valued at about $135.
The insurance deductible is $1,000.
Someone also attempted to break down the gate at the Transfer Station off Route 4 and bent the gate, Schaub said. The damage is believed to have been done by a vehicle.
It now sags when opened but it closes and locks, he said. The cost to replace the gate is about $750. Again the insurance deductible is $1,000.
The gate was replaced two years ago.
“It is just one of those things that is very frustrating,” Schaub said.
The sagging gate will probably only be a problem during snow removal.
Both events probably occurred the night of Oct. 3, he said.
Reports of the incidents were filed with law enforcement.
