LIVERMORE — The town is seeking bids for winter maintenance on two groups of minor roads, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Thursday.

The bids specify road maintenance for the entire winter season on each group and bidders would be responsible for providing their own salt, sand, equipment and manpower, he said.

Contractors would not have access to the town’s sand and salt pile.

The board wants to see if there is a way to work the cost into the budget this year, so that the town crew can concentrate on primary roads.

Selectmen will maintain the right to accept or reject any or all bids, Schaub said. If the money cannot be found in this year’s budget, the cost will be budgeted into the 2012-13 spending plan.

Bids are being sought on a group of roads in the northern section of town and a group in the southern section.

Roads in the northern group are Center Road, off Maple Lane, 275 feet; McKinney Avenue, off Goding Road, 325 feet; Toncer Road, off Botka Hill Road, 425 feet; and Wyman Road, off Route 4, 375 feet.

The southern group of roads consists of Bryant Road, off Route 108, 350 feet; Brewster Road, off Sanders Road, 400 feet; Chabot Road, off Butterhill Road, 175 feet, and Nelson Pond Road, off Shackley Hill Road, 825 feet.

Contractors will need to keep the roads safe and passable to town standards, Schaub said.

They will also need to have a minimum of $1 million of motor vehicle and general business liability insurance and provide three letters of references from commercial plowing customers.

Bid notices have appeared in the newspaper.

The bids, which need to be labeled northerly or southerly group roads, will be due by 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the town office. Selectpersons will open them at their meeting immediately following.
