PARIS — Because October is Domestic Violence Awareness month First Congregational Church in South Paris has invited Diane Gallagher of Safe Voices (formerly the Abused Woman’s Advocacy Project) to be Rev. Don Mayberry’s guest in a “conversational sermon” on the topic.
“This will not be a dry lecture” said Mayberry, “but a spiritual message pertaining to the good and healthy ways that we live together — none of which includes domestic violence. Domestic violence is a cancer that eats away the fabric of life and soul of all afflicted by it. We will talk about the statistics which are sobering and attempt to shine a light on the problem and then talk about ways that we can help including adding our prayers for healing to those afflicted.”
The services at First Congregational are at 10 a.m. and everyone is welcome. The church is handicap accessible and those needing the use of the elevator should enter through the back door.
Sunday services are broadcast live on AM 1450 in the Oxford Hills and AM 780 in the Rumford-Bethel area. For more information about the church, go to www.southpariscongregational.com or call the office at 743-2437.
