FARMINGTON — Theatre UMF will present “Fuddy Meers,” an Off-Broadway hit by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Albaire, on Oct. 20-23 in the UMF Alumni Theater.
Directed by Peter Simmel, UMF associate professor of theater, “Fuddy Meers” tells the comedic story of Claire, an amnesiac whose memory is erased whenever she goes to sleep. Each morning begins with her husband explaining her condition and providing her with a book filled with the essential memories she needs to once again re-start her life.
Then one day, a limping, lisping, half-blind, half-deaf mysterious man claiming to be her brother kidnaps Claire.
Mayhem ensues with a bizarre cast of characters participating in the day of an amnesiac trying to decipher her fractured life.
A poignant, sometimes brutal comedy, “Fuddy Meers” shows how everyone has buried secrets and struggles to find a way to move forward with their lives.
Lindsay-Abaire is best known for his absurdist comedies in which his characters possess an emotional truth. His other shows include “Rabbit Hole,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” “Wonder of the World,” “High Fidelity” and “A Devil Inside.”
