FARMINGTON — Gold LEAF Institute Senior College will offer “Maintain Your Brain” from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 14, in North Dining Hall A of the UMF student center. Cost for Gold LEAF members is $5.50. Nonmembers can attend the class by paying the fee and joining Gold LEAF. The annual membership fee is $30. New research shows that staying active and eating well may not just be good for your heart; they may also reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Carol Palmer from the Alzheimer’s Association will conduct the program. Palmer is a registered nurse with nine years training in the field of dementias and related disease processes. She currently serves as program director for the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Anyone interested in learning more about Gold LEAF (Lifelong Education at the University of Maine Farmington) may also wish to attend the organization’s fall/winter class kick-off event from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in the Olsen Student Center’s North Dining Hall. That kick-off is free for anyone 50 or over.
