BERLIN, N.H. — Red Bear Native Dance Company will bring an evening of “Music and Dances from the Heart” to St. Kieran Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in celebration of the fall season. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children.
Originally from the Great Plains region, this family of native performing artists shares stories, songs and dances that have been passed down from generation to generation. Being Tribal citizens of the Spirit Lake Dakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, Mandan and Arikara Nations, the Merrick family gives a spiritual and educational presentation of native song and dance.
These presentations will demonstrate how important living in harmony with nature is to the survival of the Native people. The evening will feature native regalia and exciting dancing, flute music and powerful native singing voices.
“We are so thrilled to bring Red Bear Native Dance Company to our community,” said Joan Chamberlain, Arts Center director. “As we enter the beautiful fall season, what better way to celebrate the season and our North Country heritage than by enjoying the songs, stories, dance and music of our nation’s Native people.”
The performance is for all ages. Doors open at 6 p.m. and guests are invited to come early to view a new group art exhibition by North Country artists which opened on Sept. 16 featuring the work of Asa Brosnan, Paul Croteau, Fran Greenwood, Andre Belanger, Ernest Demers, Michael Eastman, William Scolere and Michael Pelchat.
Upcoming events include St. Kieran annual Fall Auction Party on Oct. 14, Camerata New England, Oct. 30; Josee Vachon, Nov. 6; Berlin Jazz, Nov. 20; Nutcracker Ballet, Dec. 3, and North Country Community Chorus, Dec. 7, 9 and 11.
