100 years ago, 1911

The September term of the Supreme court for Androscoggin county will open in the county building in Auburn this morning. George M. Hanson, the newly appointed justice will preside, this being his first term. It is expected that the term will be a short one in that there are very few cases on the docket. The criminal docket is a short one also.

50 years ago, 1961

A lease on store space of 152 by 110 feet at the Northwood Park Shopping Center, Lewiston, by W. T. Grant Co., New York, was filed yesterday at the Androscoggin County Registry of Deeds.

The 15-year lease dated to start April 1, 1962, runs to July 31, 1977, and carries options to renew for four additional five-year periods to carry it through 1997.

25 years ago, 1986

Bates College’s new cultural facility, the Olin Arts Center, will be dedicated during festive inaugural activities scheduled for October 11-12. Parents’ Weekend at Bates.

The two-day gala launches a series of many public celebratory events in the center planned for the college’s 1986-1987 academic year, which Bates President Thomas Hedley Reynolds has named the Olin Inaugural Year.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set from 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, at the entrance to the building. A community open house will be held at a later date; the public will be invited to attend.
