LEWISTON — Police were scouring a Highland Avenue apartment Tuesday afternoon, searching for clues that might lead to finding a woman who has been missing since early July.
Lewiston police parked a mobile crime lab outside 36 Highland Ave. shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. A Maine State Police crime lab arrived later. The two-story apartment building is the last known address of Christiana Melusine Fesmire, 22, who was last seen July 1.
The vacant building is in foreclosure and is being seized by the bank, Lewiston police Lt. Mike McGonagle said Tuesday. Police wanted to be sure they searched for clues that might help them find Fesmire before the bank takes over and cleans the building, he said.
As police parked their crime lab under a large tree in the building’s front yard, neighbors returning home asked whether the woman had been found.
A Facebook page titled “Help Us Find Christiana Melusine Fesmire” set up by friends has 743 followers. Members on Tuesday were discussing efforts to put missing-person fliers featuring Fesmire around Portland and other Maine communities.
Before her disappearance, Fesmire had been depressed about the death of a friend, according to earlier reports in the Sun Journal. It was considered out of character for her to vanish without a word to anyone, however, and Fesmire missed a family reunion in July that she had been looking forward to, according to previous reports.
Police continued to search the apartment into the evening Tuesday. Fesmire is listed as a missing person by the Lewiston Police Department.
