FARMINGTON — Franklin County Farm Bureau will sponsor an apple pie judging contest on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the exhibition hall of the Farmington Fair.  The contest is open to all, but only one pie may be submitted per person.  A 3-by-5 recipe card with the ingredients and preparation instructions for the pie (crust too) must be included.  Pies should also be presented in a non-returnable pie plate as the pies will be auctioned off later that day.

Entries will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the second floor of the exhibition hall with the judging to begin at 1 p.m.  Judging criteria include overall appearance; color, texture and flavor of crust; texture and flavor of apple filling as well as ease of preparation and clarity of recipe.  Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. from the Farm Bureau display.  Awards for the top three pies have been donated from area businesses and orchards.  The pies will be auctioned off in the pulling ring on Wednesday evening prior to the 3000 pound 12-foot Elimination Horse Pull.  Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Ag Tech program of the Forster Tech Center, Mt. Blue High School.
