BETHEL — A local man was charged with being a fugitive from justice on a warrant from California.
Oxford County Sheriff Deputy Matthew Noyes arrested Leopold Thomas Huff, 25, at 10:05 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, on Holly Place in Bethel. He was transported to Oxford County Jail where he will be held until he is extradited to California.
Police said Huff, who was originally on parole for a conviction of second degree burglary in 2006, absconded from probation and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Margorie Droszcz with the Sacramento Probation Department stated Huff had served 32 months in state prison on the burglary conviction before being released on parole.
The Oxford District Attorney’s Office and the Oxford County jail is now working with the state of California to arrange to have Huff transported back to California.
