PARIS — Local farmers, gardeners and friends are invited to join the Fox School Farmers Market Saturday, Aug. 27, for a discussion on season extension presented by Maine’s own Johnny’s Selected Seeds. The visit will be informative for local farmers and also for home gardeners hoping to extend their crops for fresh eating or for extra canning for the winter.

Local farmers have been working to extend the growing season with the use of row covers, hoop houses and other new agricultural advances. These products allow farmers to grow crops they would not normally be able to grow. With the growth of winter farmers markets, including the local Norway Winter Farmers Market, farmers have sought out new techniques and products to provide their customers with fresh produce well into the winter season.

Aug. 27 will also be the annual Customer Appreciation Day. Free homemade ice cream will be provided while supply lasts, music, guest vendors, farm animals and fun.

For more information or to become a vendor, contact Patricia Verrill, market manager, at 674-5903. “Like” Fox Market and many of the vendors on Facebook.
