FARMINGTON — A New Hampshire man pleaded guilty Friday to stealing more than $5,000 worth of computer items and electronics from Walmart on April 16.
Michael Lovejoy, 31, of Hampton was indicted in May by a Franklin County grand jury on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. Lovejoy and two co-defendants, Brian Elliott, 35, of Portland and Jacob Landry, 37, of Buxton, are accused of stealing from the Farmington Walmart.
Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said in Franklin County Superior Court that if the case went to trial, a Walmart loss prevention employee would testify that she saw a suspicious blue car pull into the store parking lot. Testimony would be heard that two men got out of the vehicle and entered the store. They picked up a plastic container and plastic trash barrel and filled them with computer games, DVDs and electronics, Andrews said.
They then made a call on a cellphone and left through the lawn and garden section of the store and got into a blue car, he said.
Farmington police would testify they stopped a vehicle matching the description on Red Schoolhouse Road. They arrested the three men on charges of felony theft. A search of the vehicle turned up the items taken from the store, Andrews said.
There was a list of Walmart stores in the state with some crossed off when the men were arrested, police said.
Andrews said there would also be testimony that a store security camera caught the men’s actions on tape.
The plea agreement calls for one year with all but 90 days suspended at the Department of Corrections and a two-year probation, Andrews said. Lovejoy is also be prohibited from entering any Walmart during probation.
Justice Michaela Murphy continued sentencing until Sept. 23.
