FARMINGTON — Farmington Grange will host a session on geocaching at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the hall in West Farmington.
Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use GPS (global positioning system) to locate the cache. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where the geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their established code name. There are several such containers in the Farmington area.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend. The training/introduction will begin at 6:30 with Paula Kane helping folks new to the activity to feel comfortable with the GPS device. After the brief training, all participants will venture onto the old railroad bed to try their skills at finding “buried treasure.” Kane will have 15 GPS units on hand and she encourages anyone who has their own device to bring it.
Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately as they will be walking on the old railroad bed. Refreshments will be served at the hall after the session. For more info or to confirm attendance, call Wes Marble at 778-6968.
