FARMINGTON — Parent To Parent Training, a six-week parent education class, will be held at the Franklin County Children’s Task Force. The first session will take place Aug. 22 and 29 and Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26. The second will be Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 and Nov. 7.

Training will focus on redirecting behavior and dealing with power struggles, building a child’s self esteem, active listening, building respect in the home and problem solving.

Nurturing Parenting, a 10-week parent education class, will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26, and Nov. 2 and 9. The lesson will include: what nurturing parenting means, ages and stages of growth for infants and toddlers, ways to enhance positive brain development in children and teens, communicating with respect, building self worth in children, understanding feelings, understanding and developing family morals, values and rules, praising children and alternatives to spanking and dealing with anger.

Childcare is provided. Cost for either program is $10; scholarships available as needed. 

Parent To Parent Training will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. The program matches parents of children with special health needs or disabilities to an experience parent living in similar situations. Training will provide information on parent to parent program, supporting the parent’s role, communication skills and helpful resources. Dinner and childcare provided.
