100 years ago, 1911

The Wade & Dunton Company of Lewiston will begin within a short time, work on a new addition to their present factory on Park street. The new building which will be joined to the present block, will be 50 feet by 100 feet, and will be two or three stories high. This will be given over entirely to the automobile department.

50 years ago, 1961

Lewiston aldermen last night referred to City Corporation Counsel Louis Scolnik a suggestion that the Webber property off Farwell and Charles streets be turned over to the Lewiston Police Athletic League for use as a playground.

Ward Two Alderman John M. Lavertu presented the suggestion to the City Council at its regular meeting, pointing out that the PAL has lost the use of the area it had developed at Rideout Street because the 10-year lease it had on the property has expired and cannot be renewed.

25 years ago, 1986

The Maine District of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will hold its Super Dance Marathon at Auburn Mall on Saturday, Aug. 30. from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The marathon is to provide a fun and visible way to raise money for the “Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon,” which will be starting the next day. “The people of the Lewiston-Auburn area have always shown tremendous support and generosity for the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” said Robert Seavey, program coordinator for MDA. “Thanks to events like these, we can continue to provide medical and clinical services to over 400 people effected by neuromuscular diseases in Maine.”
