Town manager search
Issue: Town Manager Rick Bates was hired in February 2010 through Municipal Resources Inc. to carry out part-time duties after selectmen passed on candidates who applied for the permanent job. The town had received 48 applications and interviewed four people.
The scoop: The search is back on. Selectmen unanimously voted to revive the Town Manager Hiring Ad Hoc Committee. Seated on it: Connie Castonguay, Loretta Hinkley, Norm LaPlante, Michael Tardy, Pat Cyr, Jon Levesque, Ann Dion and Tamela Paradis.
Up next: No meeting date for the group was set.
Nomination papers
Issue: This November, the town has openings on the ballot for one selectman, one Regional School Unit 4 director, two Sanitary and Water District trustees, two Budget Committee members and six Charter Committee members.
The scoop: Interested? Step forward now. Nomination papers will be available on Aug. 15 at the Town Office.
Up next: Papers must be returned, with between 25 and 100 signatures, by Sept. 26.
Police news
Issue: Sabattus has started advertising for a new police chief.
Issue: The town entered a three-year lease for a new vehicle for $23,304.
Odds and ends
Issue: At the old Webster mill, locks have been changed, windows boarded and brush cleared. Material in one outbuilding is being tested for asbestos.
Issue: Selectmen unanimously approved creating a committee to look into establishing and fundraising for a Veterans Memorial Park. Steven Caron made the request.
Issue: According to Bates, the Furbush Bridge is scheduled to be replaced next spring.
Issue: Bates also said officials have seen a persistent issue of residents building without permits.
