A Casco man who reportedly did missionary work at orphanages in Costa Rica and Nicaragua was arrested Friday for multiple sex-related crimes.

Antonio Jackson, 37, was charged with three counts of gross sexual assault and five counts of unlawful sexual contact, all felonies that allegedly occurred in Maine, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Jackson traveled with his family to both countries where they apparently worked as missionaries. During his time away from Maine, allegations surfaced that he had sexually abused children. His family returned to the United States without him.

He was reportedly sent home to the United States from the orphanage in Nicaragua by its director after he allegedly assaulted a medical student working there, the Sheriff’s Office said in a written release Friday.

Jackson met with detectives in Muskegon, Mich., where he’s being held pending extradition to Maine.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s detectives plan to interview additional alleged victims. That office worked with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida and Muskegon police.
