LYNNFIELD, Mass. — Andrew Carlson of Casco was one of the winners of the 2nd annual Hood Good Sport Scholarship Program.
Carlson is a 2011 graduate of Lake Region High School and will attend the University of Maine Farmington this fall.
HP Hood, New England’s leading dairy company, awarded $5,000 scholarships to three high school seniors from each of the six New England states. Hood received more than 2,400 entries. Ten finalists in each state were determined by a general public vote, which was followed by in-person interviews by a panel of judges who identified the top three in each state.
Each applicant was required to meet the following in order to participate in the program: minimum of 3.0 GPA, participated in a varsity sport in high school, volunteered in his/her community and displayed a high degree of sportsmanship on and off the field.
The winners were greeted by Red Sox legend Jim Lonberg and given a private tour of Fenway, followed by a ceremony at Fenway Stadium on May 28.
