TOGUS — The Maine Old Cemetery Association will hold its second 2011 program day on Saturday, July 30, at the VA Medical Center, Building #210 Theater. Featured speakers will be Carolyn Kelley, state historian for the Maine DAR, and Lorna Hatch, acting chief of voluntary services at Togus, who will give an overview of the history of Togus.
Hatch will allow plenty of time to answer questions about Togus’ cemeteries and what’s happening at Togus now. The Silence Hayden Howard Chapter, DAR is the hosting group.
From 8:30 a.m. there will be exhibits and displays. Attendees are invited to display information about cemetery-related projects. Speakers will begin at 9 a.m. In the afternoon there will be a brief tour of the two cemeteries at Togus followed by a tour of the cemeteries on Winthrop Street in Augusta. Registration cost is $3 at the door.
Lunch is $6. The reservation deadline is July 22 and those wishing to order lunch should email shhdar@gwi.net. Questions about the program day should be directed to Cheryl Willis Patten at cwpatten@tds.net or 634-2156.
