DIXFIELD — The Dixfield-Dirigo annual Alumni Banquet was held on June 18 at the T.W. Kelly Middle School.

One hundred members and guests enjoyed the annual potluck supper. Jon Holmes ’63 presided over the business meeting in the absence of the president Betty Swan Stearns ’54, who was vacationing in Alaska with family.

All reports were read and accepted.

It was reported that there is enough money from dues and donations to be able to award eight $1000 scholarships this year. Recipients were Kirby Averill, who plans to attend Southern Maine Community College; Nick Harlow, attending Central Maine Community College; Michael Smith, UMO; Meredith Brown, UMO; and Kymberly Dolloff, Central Maine Community College. The last three names will be announced at a later date.

The classes of 1941, 1951 and 1961 were honored.

The class of 1941 had three members in attendance: Robert Cochren, Frances Savage Carlton and Kate Parlin Horne. The class of 1951 had six members in attendance: Walter Cunningham, Louise Hall Deconzo, Francis Byron, Sarah Vaughn Drury, Elizabeth Hunt Lane and Muriel Knox Buswell.

The class of 1961 was attended by Craig Nash, Merrill Briggs, Danny Rand, Ron Dakin, Wanda Wilson Jablonski, Wayne Thebarge, Charlene Norris Sassi and Donna Swett Dickson. Hugh Daley was unable to attend due to illness.

The classes of 1947-48 were attended by Maxine Tainter, Keith Morrison, Connie Brown Tutlis, May Jean McIntyre White, Alfreda Tyler Cote, Ruth Ann Newell Holman and Polly Porter Puiia, who has previously attended with her husband, Joe, a former barber in Dixfield, who passed away this spring.

The oldest class was represented by Dot Berry Mason, the class of 1936, and the youngest class was 1985 with Amy Arsenault Chiasson.

Out-of-staters traveled from North Carolina, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Missouri. Keith Morrison won the 50/50 drawing. Former teacher Nat Weston comes each year. She will be 98 years young this fall. She is always accompanied by David Young ’60.

Special thanks was given to Cindy Lane, Judy Horne and Terri Cox for working the receiving/greeting table; Joyce Wocester, who takes food to the kitchen for the guests, and Cindy Touchette and Marge Kennedy for opening the kitchen.
