Stephens Memorial Hospital offers Safe Sitter, a medically accurate program that teaches 11- to 13 year-olds how to be safe, nurturing babysitters. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of avoidable and unintentional deaths among children being cared for by babysitters. The class teaches infant and child CPR, safety for the sitter, business practices and how to entertain children, among other things. Call The Family Birthplace for information on future classes at 743-1562, ext. 380. The fee is $50 for the two-day class; scholarships are available if needed. Area youths who participated in a Safe Sitter babysitting program this spring include, front row from left, Alyssa, Emmy, Kenzie and Jaime.
