HARRISON — Deertrees Theatre, G.P. Productions and Image Theater will present “Monsters! the Musical” on Aug. 17-21 at Deertrees Theatre.

The comic musical, revolving around a 40th birthday celebration that stirs up a bevy of monsters, captures the humor, angst and insight experienced at life’s milestones.

Samantha, a Manhattan stockbroker, is visited by her domineering mother on her 40th birthday. Samantha reveals plans to quit her Wall Street job and head for soul-searching adventures in Machu Picchu.

Trying desperately to convince Samantha to reconsider, her  mother’s words stir up a toxic blend of old insecurities embodied by monsters. In an effort to derail her new ambitions and protect their status, the monsters drag Samantha into a showdown of wills and determination.

When a birthday package arrives at her door, the monsters warn her it’s no gift, but part of a dangerous plot against her. The antics skyrocket with a sexy birthday singer who is sent mysteriously.

With energetic music and comical lyrics, “Monsters! the Musical” asks: Have you faced your demons?
