FARMINGTON — The next Preparation for Childbirth classes will take place at Franklin Memorial Hospital starting June 28 through July 12. The classes take place on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Bass Room and are intended for first-time mothers at approximately 30–34 weeks gestation, along with their partners.
This three-week comprehensive class includes: stages and phases of labor; what to expect physically and emotionally; the importance of labor support; unplanned cesareans; fetal monitoring; and more. There will also be an emphasis on comfort measures, breathing techniques, relaxation and labor positions.
“Even if an expectant mother is thinking of using pain medications, comfort measures can still be very helpful to help manage pain,” said Charlene Colwell, RN, who teaches the class. “This class allows participants to make active and informed decisions that affect them and their baby.”
The Preparation for Childbirth classes are offered six times a year to accommodate all due dates. The cost is $30. Refresher classes are also available upon request.
To register for class, contact Charlene Colwell at 779-2295 or sign up with Cyndi Corey, home visit nurse at 779-2340.
