FARMINGTON — “Generosity doesn’t begin to describe the support received Sunday evening for Titcomb Mountain,” said co-organizer Shelley Deane, board member for the Titcomb Ski Education Foundation and organizer of the benefit dinner held June 5.
“The benefit dinner was possible through the thoughtfulness of The Homestead Bakery of Farmington,” said Deb Aseltine, who organized the event with Deane. Under the direction of the Danforth family, the bakery doors were opened wide inviting the community to dinner to raise funds which will be applied toward a capital campaign to help make major improvements to the mountain facility.
Close to 200 people attended the event, which generated more than $6,500 for the capital campaign. Those funds will be matched by gifts made by the Bjorn family and Kyes Insurance and Franklin Savings Bank and Western Mountain Financial Services.
Those attending were treated to lively musical entertainment provided by Doug and Sherry Walrath of The South Strong Road Crew and a special appearance by their friend Dr. David Dixon. The Walraths donated their time and contributed the money from the tip jar, appropriately labeled “Tips for Titcomb.”
The fundraising includes a raffle of a handcrafted rocking chair donated by Dan and Janice Maxham of Sugarwood Gallery. The chair is on display and tickets may be purchased at Sugarwood Gallery on Broadway.
According to Dick Forster, chairman of the fundraising effort, just over $30,000 has been raised so far toward the $120,000 goal, for which $60,000 has been committed as matching funds. The campaign is ongoing, since another $30,000 is needed to meet the goal and fully benefit from the matching funds. For further information, call Dick Forster at 778-2621. Donation checks should be made out to: Titcomb Ski Club Educational Foundation, PO Box 53, Farmington ME 04938.
