Girl Scouts of Maine is the recipient of a $4,000 Economic Security Initiative Grant from the Maine Women’s Fund.
The Maine Women’s Fund is a philanthropic and leadership organization for women, whose mission is to create lasting social change and build economic security for all Maine women and girls. Since its inception, the fund has invested $1.5 million in innovative, goal-oriented programs that are creating systemic change and improving the quality of life in Maine communities.
“Financial literacy is just one of the many practical skills girls develop in Girl Scouting which helps them gain the confidence they need to ultimately take control of their own economic future,” Connie Goulatis, chief advancement officer for Girl Scouts of Maine, said. “We are very grateful to the Maine Women’s Fund for their generosity as it strengthens our ability to provide girls with the vital information and self-advocacy skills they need to build the kind of financial stability that has the potential to change their lives and communities for the better.”
Over the years, Girl Scouts of Maine has introduced girls statewide to personal money management programs like CentsAbility and the Penny Project. Today’s Girl Scouts continue to exercise their financial literacy muscles by earning grade-level awards such as the Business-Wise Badge, the Dollars and Sense Interest Project Award, and by participating in the No. 1 entrepreneurial business program for girls in the country, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Activity.
Girl Scouts of Maine provides services and support to almost 16,000 girl and adult members statewide and builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. For more information visit, www.girlscoutsofmaine.org.
