LIVERMORE — Selectpersons unanimously voted Tuesday to hire Randy Tirrell as the new Highway Department’s laborer/driver, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Wednesday.
Tirrell currently works part time at the town’s transfer station and has worked on a fill-in basis for the Highway Department, he said. He has a commercial driver’s license.
He will be paid $12.75 an hour, Schaub said.
There will be about a week-and-half transition period before Tirrell starts full time in his new position.
There were 18 applicants for the position. Five were selected for interviews.
Highway Foreman Roger Ferland and Schaub conducted the interviews of candidates.
“We’re very excited to have him join the crew,” Schaub said.
In other business Tuesday, the select board also voted to award a tax-acquired property to Hillside Logging, owned by Gard Twitchell of Turner, for a high bid of $54,200.
The property is 89.5 acres on River Road assessed by the town at $51,917, Schaub said. There is also a mobile home on the property but it has no value, he said. Forty of the acres in the lot are assessed as wetland, he said.
Other bidders were James Kachnovich of Livermore, $37,151; Allen O’Ben of Livermore, $30,000; Johnny Castonguay of Livermore, $25,000; and Thanya Ryan, who has a post office box in Winthrop, $3,727.
