Two sterile processing technicians at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, received notification from the certification board for sterile processing and distribution that they have successfully completed criteria for certification as a sterile processing and distribution technician. The recipients, Joyce Parker, left, and Tammy Shardlow, said that they studied and prepared for the 125-question certification exam for months by reading a textbook and its accompanying training manual by the Sterile Processing University. The purpose of the certification is to recognize those individuals in the sterile processing profession who have achieved and demonstrated a heightened level of knowledge and expertise. To maintain certification, the exam must be successfully passed every five years.
