FARMINGTON — The Farmington Historical Society will host a program on the new Fly Rod Crosby Trail. The trail is proposed to connect Strong to Oquossic over 35 miles and is a project of the High Peaks Alliance and Sandy River Land Trust.

Work has been ongoing for the past year on this community trail.

Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby was born in 1854 in Phillips and is considered the first Maine guide. She fished and hunted, largely in western Maine, and also wrote articles for local newspapers. Fly Rod helped market Maine’s tourism industry by traveling to sporting shows as far away as New York.

Ben Godsoe of High Peaks Alliance will present this project at the Farmington Historical Society’s annual meeting on June 13. A potluck dinner starts at 6 p.m. followed by the program and short business meeting in the basement of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. FMI: 778-4275.
