HARRISON — Fifth-graders from Waterford and Harrison are trying to raise money to fund their trip to Camp Kieve in October. On Sunday, June 12, there will be a buffet brunch at the Olde Mill Restaurant. The brunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will cost $12.99 for adults and $6.99 for children. Fifth-graders will serve, bus the tables and clean up.

The students, under the leadership of the Waterford/Harrison PTO, have been working hard all year to enable their going to Camp Kieve, which has been a tradition for sixth-graders for several years. This program is not included in the school budget, so all funds must be raised to pay for the trip. Tuition per child is $165.

Camp Kieve, which presents a three-day, two-night program, is located in Nobleboro. It focuses on group work, individual reflection and fun, interactive, adventure-based activities to address many of the issues that face youth daily both in and out of school. Some of the issues addressed are bullying, sexual harassment, conflict resolution, stereotyping and drug and alcohol abuse.

The next fundraiser will be a hamburger stand at the Fourth of July parade in Waterford. There will also be ducks for sale for a duck race. Contributions in any amount or a sponsorship may be made by check made out to Waterford/ Harrison PTO and mailed to Harrison Elementary School-Camp Kieve, 309 Naples Road, Harrison, Maine 04040, Att. Margaret Emery, Principal.
