BETHEL — On March 29 members of the Rotary Club of Bethel read the story “The Three Questions,” based on a story written by Leo Tolstoy, to all Crescent Park Elementary School fourth-and fifth-grade students. The reading was followed by a question and answer period with the class in which the students talked about helping others. They were given facts about polio and how they could help to immunize children in countries where the live polio virus still exists. Readings have also occurred at Andover and Woodstock.

In an afternoon assembly, Michele Perejda gave a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of clean water and her National Immunization Day trip to Nigeria.

Dr. Kevin Finley spoke to the students about health implications of polio. Paige Crockett gave an inspirational explanation of what “Purple Pinkie Day” is all about. When children in other countries receive the vaccine their pinkie is painted purple to show they have had the vaccine.
