FARMINGTON — Friends of a man killed in a crash on Temple Road late Sunday were remembering him fondly Monday, saying Christopher J. Allen was a quiet and pleasant person.

Allen died Sunday night from injuries sustained after crashing his car into a tree on the Temple Road.

Allen had worked for Goings Electric in Farmington Falls for two years but left within the last few months to work with a local master electrician, Kathi Caton, Goings’ owner, said.

“He fit in like a family member. It was a comfortable fit,” Caton said.

Her customers enjoyed working with him, she said.

He was easy to get along with and had a good sense of humor, she said.

Caton said she enjoyed working with him but like any family member she was happy for him that he found a master electrician to work with since that was what he wanted to do.

Allen’s father, Phil Allen, is a firefighter with Farmington Fire and Rescue.

Fire Chief Terry Bell said he watched Christopher Allen grow up. Bell’s wife was with Allen’s mother, Melissa, in the delivery room when he was born, Bell said.

“He was a really good kid, very easy to talk to and always smiling,” Bell said.

Malcolm Porter Sr. didn’t see the crash that happened near the end of Marvel Street just west of the Mill Pond Dam on the Temple Road.

Porter was sitting on his back deck Sunday night and said he heard the crash and from the sound of it he knew it was bad.

Christopher Allen, 27, of Farmington was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am west on Temple Road, in the area of Mill Pond Park, at a presumed high rate of speed about 8 p.m., according to Farmington Police Sgt. Michael Adcock.

He apparently lost control of his vehicle, went off the road and struck a tree, Adcock said.

When police arrived, Allen, who was alone in the  vehicle and was in critical condition but still had a weak pulse, Adcock said. Allen was extricated from the car by emergency crews and taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital where he died, Adcock said.

Farmington police were assisted at the scene by Maine State Police, Farmington Fire and Rescue and NorthStar.
