FARMINGTON — Western Maine Community Action will host a community forum from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in the Ben Franklin Center’s Bass Room to explore a new community model focused on helping seniors maintain their independence in their homes.

The forum will begin with a presentation by Dr. Allan “Chip” Teel, a doctor from the Damariscotta area, and author of the book “Alone and Invisible: Averting Disaster in Aging America.” Teel will describe his innovative approach to helping seniors remain at home regardless of their health status.

Following Dr. Teel’s presentation and a question and answer period, attendees will be asked to discuss and give suggestions focusing on how WMCA, working with community partners, could best redesign its services to replicate the “Maine Approach” to elder care Dr. Teel describes. Attendees will break into facilitated small groups for discussion and feedback.
