The Woman’s Literary Union has outgrown Idyl Wilde. It was expected to have the annual outing at that cottage at Lake Auburn yesterday, but so many people came that there were only about half enough chairs to go around. Then, too, the caterpillars and brown tail moths persisted in wishing for their full share of the piazzas and lawn. After a brief consultation the executive board, after seeing conditions, secured the Grange hall, and at about three o’clock the entire party took the lunch and departed for the hall, where the afternoon was comfortably spent in listening to a splendid program.
50 years ago, 1961
Plans for the Town & Country Shopping Center, long in the development stage, were revealed last night by Edgar J. and Armand M. Bonneau of Bonneau Bros. Inc. and Maurice L. Goulet.
The shopping center will be located in the area now being developed at Lisbon Street and South Avenue. Construction is scheduled to start this summer.
25 years ago, 1986
After hundreds of hours of work, McMahon School instructor Germaine Dufresne last week was certified as Lewiston’s first master teacher.
Mrs. Dufresne, who has taught fifth-graders at McMahon for 13 years, began working toward master certification last summer when she attended three weeks of training. She followed that up with fall study on models of teaching.
